Senior Research Analyst

Bryan Paul is a Senior Equity Research Analyst with Elizabeth Park Capital Management. He has over 20 years of experience covering banks, capital markets, consumer finance, payments and fintech on a domestic and international basis. His insightful analysis and extensive experience researching and evaluating the business models of financial and fintech companies enables him to construct strong investment recommendations.

Most recently, Mr. Paul was a Partner with One Three One Partners, a long/short hedge fund, where he was responsible for the fundamental research and investment recommendations for the financial and payment sectors. For the majority of his career, Mr. Paul served as a Managing Director with TIAA-CREF where he was an Equity Analyst and Financial Sector Portfolio Manager. Between 2007 and 2020, Mr. Paul successfully navigated his $3 billion-dollar portfolio through highly uncertain economic and geo-political cycles. At TIAA-CREF, Mr. Paul worked simultaneously as an analyst and sector portfolio manager. He interacted daily with a broad group of portfolio managers and provided investment advice across all investment styles, market capitalizations and geographies. He utilized detailed financial analysis with a macro-overlay and thorough understanding of market trends to generate buy and sell recommendations. Before joining TIAA-CREF, he was a Senior Equity Analyst at Fred Alger Management, where he was responsible for investment recommendations for the domestic financial sector. He started his career with PNC Advisors as an equity analyst covering banks.

Prior to embarking on his investment career, Mr. Paul served as an Officer in the United States Marine Corps. During his 4 years in the Marine Corps, he served as an Infantry Platoon Commander and Company Commander. As a Platoon Commander, he was responsible for the training and well-being of 40 Marines, and he led his platoon on multiple national and international training deployments. As a Company Commander, he oversaw the training of 150 Marines, and in his final role, he served as the Assistant Operations Officer, responsible for coordinating the training of 600 Marines.

Mr. Paul earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Columbia University and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Drexel University. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He lives with his two daughters in Rye, NY, where he is on the Parents Association Executive Board for School of the Holy Child and is active in community outreach on food insecurity.
